| Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), under the leadership of Director General (DG) Kinza Murtaza, has implemented decisive measures to preserve the city’s green areas and ensure regulated urban development.

In a dual effort to safeguard the environment and uphold urban planning standards, the RDA has:
Banned land transactions in agricultural areas outside the peri-urban limits of Rawalpindi.
Suspended approvals for new private housing schemes in Rawalpindi Tehsil until the completion of the city’s master plan.
The ban on land transactions aims to protect vital agricultural and green areas, essential for maintaining ecological balance and combating environmental challenges such as air pollution. Highlighting the importance of green spaces, DG Kinza Murtaza emphasized, “As we progress with urban development, we must preserve our green areas for future generations. A harmonious balance between growth and environment is key to a livable city.”

This directive, communicated to the Deputy Commissioner of Rawalpindi, seeks to curb the rising loss of agricultural land to unchecked construction. Individuals with concerns or objections are encouraged to approach the Governance Redressal Committee.
In a press conference, DG Kinza Murtaza announced the suspension of new housing scheme approvals, stressing the need for a comprehensive master plan to guide urban development. The RDA has also finalized a list of illegal housing projects and is taking strict action to protect investors and prevent unauthorized construction.
“We are formulating policies to halt illegal developments at the initial stages, avoiding the complications of later regularization,” Murtaza said. She also warned of disciplinary action against RDA staff involved in such activities.
