| The National Highway Authority (NHA) is gearing up for major infrastructure upgrades to enhance road connectivity and ease congestion. A key highlight is the planned extension of the Margalla Highway, which will now link directly to the M-1 Motorway. In Lahore, the NHA is set to construct two new bypasses to streamline traffic: one on the Kala Shah Kaku-Multan Road and another connecting Sagian to Ravi Bridge.

To further improve road travel efficiency, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan proposed the introduction of electronic toll plazas across highways. These automated systems, utilizing electronic tags for toll collection, aim to eliminate long queues and reduce travel time by allowing vehicles to pass without stopping. The move aligns with global transport automation trends, promising smoother commutes and more sustainable road management practices.
Additionally, the NHA is focused on expanding the Lahore-Sialkot and Kharian-Islamabad Motorways from four lanes to six. This upgrade, directed by the minister, addresses the anticipated increase in traffic volumes and aims to ensure safer and faster travel for commuters.
