According to the details, this substantial allocation aims to enhance access to renewable energy, easing energy challenges for thousands of households and contributing to a cleaner, greener future for the province. Under the initiative, the Punjab Finance Department has allocated funding to provide free solar panels to households with low electricity usage, empowering them to harness sustainable energy at no cost.
Households consuming up to 200 units of electricity per month qualify for completely free solar panels, while those consuming between 200 and 500 units can obtain panels at a heavily subsidised rate – paying just 10% of the total cost. The remaining 90% is covered by the government, with payments distributed interest-free over five years, making renewable energy affordable for middle-income families.
The program is expected to yield substantial savings, with Punjab’s Chief Minister noting that households could see up to a 40% reduction in electricity bills. This project not only relieves financial strain but also aligns with the global shift towards renewable energy, creating long-term sustainability benefits.
In line with this, the Punjab Finance Department has designated PKR 40 million to build a new sports complex in the Judicial Colony. Additionally, PKR 40 million each has been allocated to enhance gymnasium facilities, establish a table tennis court at Nishtar Park, and to develop a dedicated sports complex in Johar Town’s R2 Block.
