| Lahore: In a bold effort to combat Lahore’s deteriorating air quality, the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) has launched the ‘Lungs of Lahore’ project. This initiative focuses on large-scale tree planting along the banks of the Ravi River, spanning 800 acres, to create a green buffer to reduce air pollution levels across the city.
According to Director General of PHA Muhammad Tahir Wattoo the project will begin with an initial phase of planting across 20 acres, eventually expanding to cover the full 800-acre plan. Targeting areas with particularly high levels of air pollution, this initiative aims to maximize green coverage and mitigate the city’s ongoing smog crisis.

Wattoo further explained that while the initial phase focuses on the Ravi River’s banks, additional areas in Lahore will be incorporated into the ‘Lungs of Lahore’ project over time. This major afforestation effort is expected to significantly reduce air pollution and contribute to a healthier environment for Lahore’s residents.
Once completed, the ‘Lungs of Lahore’ project will mark a major step in addressing the city’s environmental challenges, providing a sustainable solution to help restore cleaner air for future generations. |
