Rawalpindi: In a decisive move toward sustainable development, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has announced a ban on new private housing schemes in five tehsils: Rawalpindi, Gujarkhan, Taxila, Kallar Syedan, and Kahuta. This measure aims to preserve agricultural land, protect environmentally sensitive areas, and encourage responsible urban planning. The RDA’s ban, which will remain effective until the formal approval of the Pre-Urban Site Development Plan, prohibits developers and investors from purchasing land for housing projects within the designated tehsils. The ban also restricts the subdivision of land for private housing developments without prior RDA authorization. This zoning is expected to ensure that urban expansion does not encroach upon fertile farmland or disrupt ecologically significant areas. The plan aligns with the authority’s commitment to sustainable development that balances urban growth with natural resource conservation. To enforce the ban, the RDA has warned of strict measures against violators, including hefty fines, legal action, and demolition of unauthorized structures. This proactive enforcement is intended to maintain a balanced approach between development needs and environmental preservation. “The ban is a step toward promoting eco-friendly urban growth that respects the region’s natural resources,” stated an RDA spokesperson. “Protecting agricultural land and green zones is essential for the environment and the long-term sustainability of urban areas.” Read: RDA Task Force to Crack Down on Unlawful Housing Schemes The decision also highlights the RDA’s commitment to prioritizing green development, encouraging builders to incorporate eco-friendly principles into residential projects. Once the Pre-Urban Site Development Plan is in place, the RDA will better guide developers on where future housing projects can be responsibly constructed, ensuring that growth in the Rawalpindi region remains sustainable and considerate of environmental and agricultural concerns.
