Punjab approves setting up authorities for development, sanitation, horticulture

Lahore: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the creation of three provincial authorities to oversee local-level development, sanitation, and horticulture across Punjab, announced on October 21. Read: Punjab considers banning property transfers in LHR’s illegal housing schemes During a special meeting on Sunday, the government decided to establish the Punjab Development Authority, the Punjab Water & Sanitation Authority, and the Punjab Horticulture Authority. These authorities will be responsible for policy formulation at the provincial level, while local agencies will handle the on-ground implementation. Legislation to formalise these bodies will be introduced in due course. The meeting also reviewed plans for appointing governing boards, director generals, and management boards for the newly established authorities. Additionally, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for a rapid transition of streetlights to solar energy across the province. The secretaries of the housing and local government departments participated via video link. These developments reflect the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, improving water and sanitation services, and promoting greener urban spaces across the province.
