Minister orders setting up dumping sites, waste collection points at tehsil level

Lahore: Punjab Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafiq has ordered the swift establishment of waste enclosures, dumping sites, and temporary collection points (TCPs) at the tehsil level, with control rooms operational by month’s end. Read: Sindh, Chinese firms discuss waste-to-energy, desalination projects for KHI As per details, the directive followed a meeting with Waste Management Companies’ CEOs on Thursday, attended by Punjab Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmed Mian, focusing on the Suthra Punjab initiative and the outsourcing of sanitation services. During the discussion, Minister Rafiq emphasised the importance of completing population assessments and recovery details in selected tehsils during the first phase of the program. He reiterated that the only model for waste management under the outsourcing initiative would be door-to-door collection, ensuring that each area is cleaned three times a week. He also clarified that the collection of fees would not commence in the first three to four months following the rollout of the outsourcing model.
