Punjab to provide free metro bus travel in major cities

Lahore: The Punjab government is set to introduce free public transport services for senior citizens, students, and people with disabilities across major cities, as reported on September 11. Read: Cycle tracks to connect with metro stations, Muhammad Ali Randhawa As per the details, this initiative will cover the Metro Bus, Orange Line Train, and Speedo Bus routes in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi and other cities making public transport more accessible to vulnerable groups. The proposal, which is currently under review by the Cabinet Committee on Finance, has been submitted by the provincial Transport Department and the Mass Transit Authority. Final approval is expected in an upcoming meeting chaired by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb. Once greenlit, this welfare program will significantly improve transportation access for these groups, offering them free rides on key public transport routes in Punjab’s major cities.
