As per details, this initiative is a key element in PHA’s broader effort to transform public infrastructure into revenue-generating assets. According to PHA Director General Muhammad Tahir Wattoo, 11 underpasses and an equal number of pedestrian bridges, mainly located along the canal but also in other strategic areas, will be made available for static advertisements.
The authority anticipates generating over PKR. 85 million annually through this initiative. The underpasses up for lease include those on both sides of the canal, covering areas from Dharampura to Doctors’ Hospital, Ghulab Devi Hospital, and the Lal Shahbaz Qalandar underpass near Firdous Market. In addition, pedestrian bridges on Canal Road, Syed Maratib Ali Road, Punjab University Gate 4, Jinnah Hospital, Wafaqi Colony, Johar Town H Block, Aiwan-i-Quaid-i-Azam, and the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust will also be available for advertising.

Mr. Wattoo highlighted that this move is part of a larger strategy aimed at boosting PHA’s self-generated revenue. Last year, the PHA achieved a record revenue of PKR. 2.5 billion. By leveraging commercial advertising on pedestrian bridges and other infrastructure, the authority aims to secure a steady income stream, reduce reliance on external funding, and ensure long-term financial stability. |
