| Islamabad: The Inter State Gas Company (ISGS) has invited tenders for revalidation of survey and Front-end Engineering Design for Pak-Iran gas pipeline project, according to news reports shared in national dailies on April 7. It is important to mention here that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is expected to visit Pakistan on April 22.
The project, which was to be completed in 2014, has faced unfortunate delays due to the United-State imposed sanctions on Iran. As per the agreement signed between the two countries, in the case Pakistan fails to complete the project by March 2024, it will face USD 18 billion penalty.

The 80-km pipeline section houses two compressors to handle an initial flow of 100mmcfd of gas. This section’s completion is vital to meet the local gas demand as well as to safeguard against potential penalties.
With plans for land acquisition underway, the subsequent step will be the awarding of the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract. The project’s total cost is estimated at Rs44 billion. |
