PAK, Russia, CARs convene for UAP Rail Project funding talks

Islamabad: Pakistan, Russia, and Central Asian Republics (CARs) look forward to a high-level meeting scheduled for April 23-24, 2024, to discuss financing for the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) rail project, as reported by a news source on April 5. Read: Pak, WB met to discuss multi-billion-dollar projects As disclosed in the details, Pakistan has already invested USD 1 million in a pre-feasibility study and is eager to begin construction, though Qatar has requested a fresh feasibility study due to missing details. Uzbekistan has secured financing from Abu Dhabi Ports for a feasibility study. The next meeting in Tashkent aims to further discuss project financing. Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved the project’s revised cost, and funds have been allocated for the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to commence work.
