NADRA, FBR join forces to expand tax base

Islamabad: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) are working collaboratively to extend the tax base and enlist new taxpayers, aiming to enhance the country’s tax revenue, according to news published in the national dailies on January 19. Muhammad Munir Afsar emphasized the importance of cooperation from the business community in these efforts during a meeting with a delegation from the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) led by ICCI President Ahsan Zafar Bakhtawari. During the meeting, NADRA Chairman Afsar briefed the business community on the authority’s key initiatives designed to facilitate citizens. He highlighted the NADRA e-Sahulat platform, emphasizing its role as a low-cost e-services platform providing secure payment and collection facilities to citizens. The network encompasses over 17,000 active franchisees connected with telecommunication companies and banks, contributing to the income of retailers while providing employment opportunities for thousands of youths. He acknowledged the authority’s establishment of Facilitation Desks in the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and proposed a similar setup in the ICCI to streamline services for the business community. Bakhtawari expressed concern about the increasing burden on existing taxpayers by FBR and assured that the business community is willing to cooperate in broadening the tax base.
