’36 projects worth USD 24bn completed under CPEC, 22 underway’

Islamabad: Caretaker Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Minister Muhammad Sami Saeed announced the successful completion of 36 projects, valued at a cumulative USD 24 billion, under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), as reported by a news source on January 2. Read: Gwadar gets its first hospital under CPEC initiative According to the details, Minister Saeed provided specific updates on Gwadar, citing achievements such as the completion of the master plan for Gwadar City, progress on the East Expressway, and the anticipated completion of an international airport in June, showcasing substantial advancements in the region. Minister Saeed underscored the central focus of CPEC on the development of Gwadar City and Gwadar Port. The completion of 36 projects, valued at USD 24 billion, and the ongoing construction of 22 projects, budgeted at USD 5 billion, highlight the progress. Furthermore, negotiations for 26 projects, totalling USD 27 billion, are in the pipeline within the CPEC framework, while 27 projects dedicated to Balochistan’s social and economic development are actively underway. For the current year, the PSDP stands at PKR 950 billion, with PKR 400 billion allocated to national projects. Notably, 15% of the program is dedicated to Balochistan, with an extra 14% earmarked for province-specific projects, totalling PKR 285 billion. These funds are directed towards projects related to connectivity, roads, and water, including various dam projects.
