Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has shared the details on the progress of expansion of the Islamabad Expressway, a news source reported on December 9. Read: Third-party audit to determine if CDA should import China-made electric buses As per the details, the deadline for completion of the said project is March 24. Currently, 60% of the work is done, and concerns are raised about finishing the remaining 40% within the next three months. The CDA officials (whose names were not disclosed) are hopeful that the project could be completed by March if funding flows smoothly, while some believe completion by June is more realistic. Moreover, the CDA officials stated that while 40% of the work remains, the major portion of the road is complete, with a focus on completing work on three main bridges. They claim that approximately 4-kilometre from G.T. Road to Kak Pul has been finished, while the remaining area is in progress in patches. The CDA awarded PKR 10.9 billion contract to the Frontier Work Organisation (FWO) for the rehabilitation and expansion of a 7-kilometer stretch from PWD Interchange to G.T. Road in Rawat, including key structures like Bhandhar Bridge, Japan Road underpass, and Soan Bridge. The news source mentioned that the project aims to add two rigid and two flexible lanes on each side of the expressway, addressing bottlenecks that have caused daily traffic disruptions.
