Rawalpindi: Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister (CM) Mohsin Naqvi has formally initiated the construction of the Daducha Dam to address the water scarcity issue in Rawalpindi, as reported by a news source on December 2.

As stated in an article, the Daducha Dam was initially budgeted at PKR 6.7 billion, but the project’s cost has increased to PKR 14 billion over the last couple of years. The dam is poised to alleviate Rawalpindi’s water scarcity issues by providing 35 million gallons of water daily to its residents and is anticipated to be completed within the next two years.
CM Naqvi expressed the urgency of addressing Rawalpindi’s acute water shortage, emphasising that the dam would significantly contribute to meeting the city’s water demand upon completion. He praised the efforts of the Punjab Chief Secretary and Commissioner Rawalpindi in overcoming obstacles and ensuring the project’s initiation.

Furthermore, as shared by the source, the project’s current status indicates a financial progress of 26 percent and physical progress of 12 percent, with the right of way largely cleared. It is noteworthy that this project comes as a vital relief, particularly during the summer when the water shortfall in the garrison city reaches up to 60 MGD. |
