Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has commenced the construction of signal-free corridors through protected U-turns at various junctions to alleviate growing traffic issues in the city, as claimed by a news source on December 1.

According to details, concrete pillars have been installed at Qadir Topash Chowk and Y Junction, with plans to extend this initiative to six more junctions. The objective is to create a network of signal-free corridors, starting with the route from Jinnah Hospital to Barkat Market.
Further extending these efforts, the Jinnah Hospital to Barkat Market route has witnessed the removal of the traffic signal at Barkat Market, followed by the introduction of a U-turn two hundred meters later. Abdul Sattar Edhi Road has also seen the removal of four traffic signals, replaced by protected U-turns, ensuring a more efficient traffic system.

The authorities have implemented barriers at significant locations, including Shimla Hill, Khokar Chowk, Abdul Haq Road, and Nishtar Chowk. These measures are likely in place for various reasons, such as traffic management and security. |
