FBR to take strict action against non-filers to boost tax base

Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is set to deploy a multifaceted approach, combining the issuance of notices to non-filers with additional administrative measures, as reported by a news source on November 14. Subsequently, concerted efforts will be made to expand this reach to 1.5 million people by the year 2024, with a long-term goal of encompassing 6.5 million taxpayers by June 30, 2024. The campaign against non-filers will involve the issuance of notices as well as the implementation of stringent administrative and legal measures to ensure compliance with tax laws. In line with this initiative, Caretaker Prime Minister (PM) Anwar ul Haq Kakar has given approval for these measures, signalling a commitment to strengthening the tax base.
