Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has saved approximately PKR 840 million in electricity bills through solar energy projects and the province is actively pursuing nine solar energy projects, including in merged districts, according to news published in the leading newspaper on November 23.

Chief Executive Officer of Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organisation (PEDO) Engineer Naeem Khan shared that efforts are underway on nine solar energy projects. He went on to say that the solar energy exhibition in Peshawar is dedicated to promoting and developing solar energy and will contribute to addressing the ongoing energy crisis in the country.
During the exhibition’s initial two days, Engineer Naeem, accompanied by Secretary Energy and Power Nisar Ahmad Khan, emphasized the successful conversion of key government facilities like the Civil Secretariat, Chief Minister’s House, and Chief Minister’s Secretariat to solar power. He also revealed substantial progress in solarizing 8,000 schools, 187 Basic Health Units, and 4,000 mosques. In the merged districts, 100 villages, including 300 mosques, had been solarized.

Ongoing efforts include extending solar energy to schools in merged districts and equipping 7,000 mosques and worship places in settled districts. Additionally, 312 mini micro hydropower projects have been completed in phase one in underdeveloped districts, with plans for 291 more under phase two. |
