Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allocated a substantial budget of PKR 1 billion to TransPeshawar to ensure the seamless functioning of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service, as reported by a news source on November 4.

As per the details, the allocated funds will cover the operational expenses of the BRT service from November 2023 to February 2024. Addressing concerns regarding the service, a press release issued clarified that there is no truth to the rumours of the BRT service facing closure or limitations due to funding shortages. The press release also highlighted the prompt disbursement of funds to cover ongoing operational costs. This ensures that outstanding payments to service providers for the BRT are settled without delay.

Furthermore, Special Assistant to Transport and Housing Chief Minister Zafarullah Khan emphasised the critical importance of uninterrupted BRT operations. He pointed out that the BRT service currently caters to an impressive 300,000 passengers daily. Any interruption or closure, even for a short period, could have profound consequences on the lives of Peshawar’s residents and the city’s socioeconomic fabric. |
