Islamabad:The civic agency is racing against time to complete five mega development projects before completion of the constitutional term of the incumbent government.
According to an official "The federal government has given strong directives to the civic agency to complete these multi-billion projects in the coming weeks. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is willing to inaugurate them before expiry of the constitutional term of the National Assembly. He has been taking keen interest in these projects and obtaining their progress report on monthly basis." The ongoing mega projects that are nearing completion include the Bhara Kahu Bypass, IJP Road, Margalla Avenue, 10th Avenue and expansion of Islamabad Expressway.
The Bhara Kahu Bypass project was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in October 2022. The 10.4-kilometer-long Margallah Avenue road is being constructed at a cost of Rs 2 billion from GT Road to D-12. Overhauling and widening of IJP is also underway. The construction work on the expansion of Islamabad Expressway from Koral to T-Chowk on GT Road is also being done round the clock.
Apart from these projects, the civic agency is also focusing on another development project that involves rehabilitation and improvement work on various roads located in several areas including Shah Allah Ditta, Golra, Sangjani, Sarai Kharboza, Gokina, Mandla, Bari Imam, Sanjalian, Banigala, Phulgran, Sakreela, Naiabadi, Huzaifa Town and Malpur.
The projects were inaugurated with ambitious deadlines but the civic agency faced numerous challenges due to which it could not be able to complete them within stipulated timeframe. Change of two chairmen of the civic agency in short span of time also adversely affected progress on these projects. The official said, "We have no doubt about it that all five mega projects will be completed in next few weeks. Hopefully, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate all these projects that will greatly help regulate the traffic and facilitate the motorists." |
