Sindh take action against property tax defaulters

Karachi: The Sindh government has decided to take strict action against owners of residential, commercial, and industrial properties who have not paid property tax, according to news published in the national dailies on June 3. Read: Sindh urban immovable property tax management dept transferred to LG Additional Chief Secretary Najam Shah chaired a meeting in which he stated that all hurdles and obstacles in the collection of urban property tax will be removed. He went on to say that taxes due on commercial, residential, and industrial properties will be collected. During the meeting, it was decided that decisive action will be taken against property tax defaulters who have not cleared their dues despite repeated reminders and notices. Under the Sindh Urban Immovable Property Tax Act 1958, property tax is applicable to all residential, industrial, and commercial properties in urban areas. However, houses covering 120 square yards and apartments spanning 600 square feet are exempt from property tax on the condition that the property is for personal use of the owner. It was disclosed that property tax is applicable to rented properties irrespective of the area. He went on to say that strict action will be taken against any officer involved in any irregularities.
