Lahore: Pakistan’s first certified female architect – Yasmeen Lari – is heading the sustainable housing project in flood-hit southeastern Punjab, a news source reported on May 4. Read: KRT to construct low-cost houses in flood-hit areas As per the details, the Heritage Foundation of Pakistan – Yasmeen Lari’s Non-Government Organisation (NGO) – has constructed 1,000 low-cost and eco-friendly houses in Sindh by utilising locally sourced materials like mud, bamboo, and lime. The houses designed are disaster-resilient, easy to erect, can withstand extreme weather, and are environmentally friendly. Laro is also teaching villages to construct their own homes by conducting workshops and tutorials on YouTube. The news source disclosed that the houses could be built under USD87 and are easy to replace and repair. Recently, she was awarded the 2023 Royal Gold Medal from The Royal Institute of British Architects for her relief work.
