CDA approves formation of new Building Control Wing

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA)’s board on Monday approved the formation of the Building Control Wing – which will have qualified staff and will be tasked with the implementation of building by-laws and preventing illegal construction in Islamabad, according to news published on April 11. Read: CDA invites tender for Simly Dam Road Rehabilitation Project It was highlighted that a meeting was held of the CDA board, under the chair of Chairman Captain (retired) Noor ul Amin Mengal, with an extensive agenda with a main focus on the improvement of the capacity of authority’s building control. As per the details shared for the new Building Control Wing, it will have 50 teams with an assistant director and two supervisors for each. The board also amended the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Building Control By-Laws and Regulations 2002, particularly for development on Murree Road and IJP Road. The meeting also approved the allotment of plots in Zones 2, 4 and 5 on a 33-year lease for educational institutes. The Floor Area Ratio (FAR) was also extended for such plots. However, it was highlighted that these education institutes will cater to lower-middle and middle-class families. Read: CDA to approve commercial buildings’ plans within one month The board also approved the initiation of development work on the bus terminal in Sector I-11 in two months, the Project Concept (PC-1) of which will be tabled before the board in two weeks. Another board decision approved the ‘Green Fund’, under which private parties will have to reserve at least 2% of projects like highrise buildings. The said Green Fund will be received under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). It was also stated in the revised building bylaws that no building plan in future will be approved if it didn’t include a recharging well or water tank.
