Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to fine residents for wasting water during the upcoming summer season, the news sources reported on March 7.

The authority has formed special inspection teams to monitor and fine residents for violations of water use including washing vehicles and wasteful conduct. The authority has also raised the previous limit of PKR 5,000 to upwards of PKR 25,000 for repeating the offence. In this regard, the authority has allowed the inspection teams to send challans of repeated offenders to the CDA magistrate to revise the penalty. In a statement by the authority, it was stated that the decision for the increased fine was taken in view of the repeat of water-wasting-related offences in posh areas where residents can pay fines.

It is important to note that Islamabad is facing the worst water shortage since it lacks a reliable groundwater source. The authority has recently allowed the Federal Government Employee Housing Authority (FGEHA) to construct a missing link of the 1.2-kilometre water line from Shah Allah Ditta to Sector G. the project will provide 1.2 million gallons of water (MGWD) to the residents of the surrounding areas |
