Govt to hire consultant for ML-1 project soon

Islamabad: The federal government has decided to hire an international consultant for the Karachi to Peshawar Main Line-1 (ML-1) project, news sources reported on March 6. Read: Govt to focus on KCR, ML-1 projects for early completion The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved the final decision to allocate PKR 909.285 million for the project. Out of this amount, PKR 450 million has been assigned for hiring an consultant while the remaining amount will be utilized for paying salaries and other expenses of the project. Additionally, the project also includes the establishment of a Project Management Unit (PMU) and a Project Implementation Unit (PIU) in Lahore and the Ministry of Railways, respectively, to efficiently monitor and supervise project activities such as cost estimation, tender processing, and execution. The project will also include the hiring of human resources to carry out these activities. Read: ADB offers to finance ML-1 project It is important to note that the ML-1 project starts from Karachi and travels through four provinces before concluding in Peshawar. There have been some disagreements between the two countries regarding the finance and cost estimates of the project. Recently, Pakistan decided to decline Asian Development Bank’s (ADB) offer to start the project citing a mutual agreement with China for the project.
