Audit of over 150 buildings underway in Murree

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has started audit of the building plans of 166 buildings and if any violations are found, their architectural designs will stand cancelled. This was stated by Divisional Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chattha during his visit to Murree on Sunday. He said audit of 166 buildings was underway and illegal designs would not only be cancelled but action taken against those who approved them. Strict action is being taken against illegal constructions in Murree, and violation of building rules will not be allowed under any circumstances, Mr Chattha said. Expressing his dissatisfaction over the cleanliness arrangements in Murree, he said there should be an ideal cleanliness system for tourists in the city and the assistant commissioner (AC) Murree should personally supervise the cleaning staff. He said he would personally review sanitation arrangements and the AC should monitor arrangements in the field on a daily basis. Mr Chattha said strict action should be taken against those who cut trees illegally in Murree and more trees should be planted, adding that under the Green Punjab plan, all government institutions as well as the private sector and the business community should be made part of the plantation campaign in Murree. He said that the government wanted to make the hill station’s environment friendly and there was dire need to plant more trees in the area. He added that departments concerned had been asked to plant local trees and plants in the area so that the environment could be free of pollution. The provincial government was working towards improving roads and water facility in the hill station, he said, adding that a tourist-friendly environment would be provided to people. He asked the administration to facilitate locals and visitors, adding hotels and restaurants should adopt hygienic conditions in their premises and quality food must be provided to people.
