Chairman Capital Development Authority Captain Noor ul Amin Mengal inaugurated ceremony held to distribute free of cost fruit trees in connection with Spring Tree Plantion 2023 drive. The ceremony was attended by civil society, citizens especially large number of children. Upon the instructions of the Chairman CDA, fruit plants are being distributed among citizens for planting in their homes.
These plants include peaches, apricots, pomegranates, and other fruit plants that are compatible with the local climate and environment. In this regard, about 5 thousand plants will be distributed free of cost this week and about 20 thousand plants during the next 15 days. Moreover, on the instructions of Chairman CDA, a target of planting 5 lacs saplings has been set in this year’s spring plantation drive. In this context, the Environment Wing has been directed to involve all stakeholders including educational institutes, civil society and private institutions in this campaign.
These institutes will be provided free of cost plants. In this regard, special teams have been constituted for the first time to ensure the survival rate. Theses teams will inspect the plants supplied to different institutions every two months to see if those plants are growing well or not. Through this initiative not only survival rate of olants will be improved but will also help establish check and balance system in the process.In line with instructions of Chairman CDA, various places will be designated in the city from where citizens can easily get plants.
Chairman CDA said that the purpose of the campaign is not only to complete the number of plants but to ensure their growth rate which is the main objective of the plantation campaign.
Moreover, The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to increase the city’s green cover by planting saplings on billions of rupees of land it recovered from illegal occupants under the anti-encroachment drive. “The authority has recently launched a massive drive in the federal capital against the land grabbers to recover its precious land that had been unlawfully occupied by the mafia,” an official told media person. He said the tree-plantation decision was taken on the direction of CDA Chairman Noor ul Amin Mengal, and the authority would carry out a comprehensive drive aimed at preventing re-encroachment of retrieved land and increasing green spaces across the capital.
The official said the CDA had retrieved land in several locations of Islamabad, including the Kuri Area, F-7, F-10, F-11, E-12 sectors, C-12 sector, Sarai Kharboza along the Grand Trunk Road, and the Margalla Hills National Park.
He said the authority also launched an awareness campaign to educate people from all segments of society particularly students about the importance of tree plantation so that green cover could be increased in the city by planting more trees.
