Digitisation of economy can fetch USD 60 bn annually: OICCI

Islamabad: The Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) suggested on Thursday (February 16) that the country could gain USD 60 billion annually from the digitisation of the economy, according to news reports. Read: STZA to establish Special Technology Zones in Sindh In a report submitted to President Alvi, OICCI President Ghias Khan said that disruptive technologies like e-commerce, fintech, IT exports, and Web 3.0 technologies have the potential to employ 23% of the total population of the country. The report also highlighted that the country’s youth can only be managed by promoting the gig economy and using digital tools. The report also quoted examples of Indonesia and Malaysia and the digitisation model that helped them reduce obstacles to Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) and developing a digital base for the country. The technology parks, which the Special Technology Zone Authority will manage (STZA), will have special tax holidays with one-window approval to establish the software houses.
