RAWALPINDI: Water supply from Khanpur Dam to the city and cantonment areas has been suspended from February 15 to February 25 due to dredging of its left bank canal.
The Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB), Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) will jointly carry out dredging of the 19.5-kilometre-long canal.
The RCB is getting nine million gallon daily (MGD) water, Wasa six MGD and CDA 10 MGD from Khanpur Dam. However, currently only nine MGD water was being supplied to the Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas - RCB and CCB getting five MGD and Wasa four MGD water - due to some technical problems at the Sangjani filtration plant.
“We will provide water to the residents through tankers in those areas where water is supplied from Khanpur Dam,” said Wasa Managing Director Mohammad Tanveer.
He said the agency had already planned to supply water to eight localities that were supplied water from Khanpur Dam. He said the quantity of water from Rawal Dam will be enhanced to cater to the affected areas.
