CDA hands over Marghazar zoo assets to IWMB

ISLAMABAD - The federal capital’s only Marghazar zoo assets were handed to the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB) from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday.

However, the CDA in its note said that the management has been handed over but the title of land is not following the court orders.

The note said, “In the light of honorable Islamabad High Court decision and cabinet decision, the management of the zoo is handed over to IWMB except title of land which will be decided by the competent forum in order to develop the zoo as per high court decision.”

The IWMB officials along with the Ministry of Climate Change organized a handing over ceremony of Marghazar Zoo here.

Chairperson IWMB Rina Saeed Saeed Khan said that zoo assets were finally handed over to IWMB. Margallah Wildlife Centre, spread over 82 acres of land including site of old zoo, will be established under PM Imran Khan’s clean and green agenda for overall environmental sustainability and wildlife conservation.

She also said that IWMB is working on detailed plans for Margallah Wildlife Centre with Join Hands, a registered charitable society guided by the vision that all living beings are treated with dignity, kindness and compassion
