The provincial government has allocated PKR 60 million for Project Management Unit expenditure and the remaining funds for feasibility study and detailed design of RRR (Phase 2) – worth PKR 50 million – in the ADP 2021-22. However, no funds have been allocated for the project’s realignment.

The building of the RRR, one of the twin cities’ largest infrastructure projects, has been stalled since April after an inquiry into the project was launched. On April 27, Prime Minister Imran Khan took note of the alleged alterations in project realignment that offered unfair benefit to certain projects and raised the overall development cost by PKR 25 billion. Following the beginning of the inquiry, it was reported that the Punjab government has entrusted the Lahore Ring Road Authority and the Rawalpindi Development Authority with re-design the route of this much-needed project.
